Successes in latest ARC funding schemes rounds

Dec04
cepar award

Projects to develop population forecasts, examine migration moves within Australia and investigate optical retirement planning have secured funding in the latest round of Australian Research Council (ARC) grant awards.

CEPAR researchers Dr Tom Wilson and Associate Professor Jeromey Temple were successful in the latest ARC Discovery Project (DP) scheme.
Dr Tom Wilson and A/Professor Jeromey Temple are part of a team to develop population forecasts for planning and policy. They will receive $348,536 to create more robust, detailed, and accurate small area population forecasts, and implement them in a sophisticated forecasting system for one jurisdiction in Australia, USA, UK and Canada. The project is significant as it expects to generate a suite of new and innovative methods, theory, and population forecasts that will be useful to researchers and planners both in Australia and overseas.

Moreover, Dr Tom Wilson has been awarded $220,311 for his Discovery Project on ‘Where migrants go: A study of immigrants’ post-arrival moves in Australia.’. The project will establish the geographical and occupational trajectories of different migrant groups after arrival in Australia. It seeks to improve understanding of the incidence, spatial patterns and drivers of migrants’ movement within Australia and the socio-demographic impact on regions and individuals.

Dr Yang Shen, CEPAR Associate Investigator in the UNSW Business School, receives funding in the 2019 Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme. He will receive $420,039 to unpick retirement planning. His work will use actuarial mathematics, financial mathematics and other techniques to investigate the optimal retirement planning framework; and to help demystify the puzzles in retirement planning.
