Household decision-making, especially health and finances, for and in old age

CEPAR

Program lead: Hazel Bateman (School of Risk and Actuarial Studies, UNSW Sydney)

This research stream aims to:

  • explore behavioural barriers to the drawdown of wealth (superannuation, housing and financial assets) in retirement; develop and ‘consumer test’ new strategies for financing retirement and aged care;
  • design, test, and implement decision support tools to assist people with different cognitive and financial skills capacities to make sound financial, housing and care decisions through retirement and in later life;
  • investigate how to communicate the features and risks of complex products and public/private interactions to consumers; explore the role of choice architecture (nudges/defaults) to simplify retirement decision making.
