Emerging Researchers in Ageing presents the

20th National Conference of Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA 2022)

New Directions in Research on Ageing

10 November 2022
Virtual

Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) is sponsored by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR).

Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) is sponsored by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR).

The 20th National Conference of Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA 2022) is being co-chaired by Associate Professor Tim Windsor (Flinders University) and Dr Helen Barrie (University of South Australia).

ERA 2022 offers a unique opportunity for emerging researchers in ageing to share their research; this is the only national conference in Australia focusing on the work of higher degree research students undertaking research in ageing across a range of disciplines.

Ask the ERA Brains Trust - Call for expressions of interest

The interactive Ask the ERA Brains Trust format provides selected participants with the opportunity to ask questions and receive research advice from members of the ‘ERA Brains Trust' (relevant experts).

This format is suitable for emerging researchers at any stage who may benefit from specialist advice on aspects of either their planned research, work-in-progress, or completed research.

Participants in an Ask the ERA Brains Trust session will:

  • Give a brief individual presentation (introduce and provide a brief overview of their research, and outline their key questions for the ERA Brains Trust to address)
  • Participate in a group Q&A session (alongside 1-2 other participants) with members of the ERA Brains Trust that have been allocated to address the questions presented.

Participation in an interactive Ask the ERA Brains Trust session at ERA 2022 is open to Honours, Masters, PhD, Professional doctoral students, and early career researchers engaged in ageing-related research from any discipline.

Please download the Expression of Interest Guidelines and Form for further information and submission instructions.

Those wishing to participate must submit an expression of interest by WEDNESDAY 31 AUGUST 2022.

Co-chairs

ERA 2022 - Barrie, Helen.jpgDr Helen Barrie

University of South Australia

Dr Helen Barrie is a Senior Research Fellow and Acting Director of The Australian Alliance of Social Enterprise (TAASE) at the University of South Australia. As a social gerontologist and geographer, Helen's research has a focus on Australia's changing population and the implications of this for society and communities. Much of this work involves an examination of the interaction between people and the built environment; community connectedness and social networks; all with a particular focus on ageing populations. She is proud to have been an Australian Association of Gerontology member for 16 years; a past state and national president and now a life member.

ERA 2022 - Windsor, Tim.jpg Associate Professor Tim Windsor

Flinders University

Tim Windsor is Director of the Generations research initiative, within the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work at Flinders University. His research interests focus on social engagement and the psychological and social resources that people use to maximise their developmental potential, overcome challenges, and effectively negotiate transitions, particularly in later life. Dr Windsor has been awarded numerous grants including an ARC Future Fellowship to study developmental changes in social relationships, and their implications for mental health and cognition. He has co-authored more than 70 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters, with the majority concerned with social networks, cognition, and emotional wellbeing in older adulthood.
