On 19 June, CEPAR hosted a visit by the Ministry of Government Legislation of the Republic of Korea to discuss Australia’s pensions and retirement systems in Australia.
CEPAR researchers Scientia Professor John Piggott and Professor of Practice Philip O’Keefe presented the Australian Retirement policy structure, using a framework that associates policy targets with policy instruments. The Age Pension addresses poverty alleviation in old age; the Superannuation Guarantee addresses consumption smoothing between working life and retirement, and the third pillar encompasses lifetime assets, such as housing. The talks concluded with discussions on ongoing challenges in the system.
